Clematis 'Tetrarose' is a delightful and compact clematis cultivar, known for its charming, semi-double flowers. This early large-flowered clematis produces a profusion of pale pink blooms with a deeper pink bar in the centre of each petal, creating an attractive two-toned effect. The flowers, which typically appear in late spring and often again in late summer, feature contrasting yellow stamens that add to their visual appeal. It's a versatile climber, suitable for various settings, including gardens, containers, and even smaller spaces where a more manageable climber is desired. It belongs to the Ranunculaceae family.
Origin: Clematis 'Tetrarose' is a relatively recent cultivar, bred in the Netherlands.
Light: This clematis thrives in a position with plenty of sunlight, ideally with its upper portion basking in full sun and its roots shaded. It can tolerate some shade, but flowering may be reduced.
Water: Consistent watering is important, especially during dry periods and in the first year after planting. Maintain moist soil, but avoid overwatering, which can lead to root problems.
Soil: Clematis 'Tetrarose' prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It can tolerate various soil types, but thrives in loamy soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH.
Support: As a climbing plant, it requires support to grow. Provide a trellis, obelisk, or other structure for it to climb on.
Pruning: This clematis falls into pruning group 2, meaning it flowers on both old and new wood. A light prune in late winter or early spring, removing any dead or weak stems, is recommended. After the first flush of flowers in early summer, pruning back some stems can encourage a second bloom later in the season.
Hardiness: Clematis 'Tetrarose' is a hardy plant that can withstand cold winter temperatures.
Uses: This clematis is primarily cultivated as an ornamental climber for its attractive flowers and compact growth habit. It's a popular choice for adding vertical interest to gardens, patios, and balconies.
Toxicity: It's important to note that Clematis 'Tetrarose' is toxic to dogs, cats, and horses if ingested.
