My journey with plants began with a modest collection of succulents and cacti, a passion somewhat constrained by limited space. The limited options available sparked an idea: to create Root Houseplants, a haven for plant lovers like myself. I envisioned a shop offering an exhaustive range of plants, coupled with a service that fostered plant education and a welcoming space for everyone.
In 2017, we took our first step, launching Root online. By April 2018, we were bringing our passion to the community with our first market stall. Since then, we’ve been privileged to deliver over 10,000 online orders and establish two thriving brick-and-mortar stores in Liverpool and West Kirby. But we didn't stop there. We've also branched out, providing bespoke plant solutions to commercial venues across the UK, including stylish restaurants and productive office spaces. I'm incredibly proud of the recognition our family-run business has received, including features in The Times, The Spruce, Ideal Home, Living Etc, and Liverpool John Moores University.
More than anything, I feel privileged to run a business that seamlessly blends my passion and knowledge for plants. Lisa is the owner of Root Houseplants; she loves plants and pups. Lisa loves Aroids and Hoya; if she had to pick some favourites it would be her Philodendron 'Florida Ghost' and Hoya curtisii. When she's not in the shop she'll most likely be at home with her sausage dog Bubs, or watching cooking shows in her pyjamas!
Hannah started off as a customer at Root, she talked with Lisa about her plants, her favourites and those she wished to own. Her love of plants and her enthusiasm shone through. When there was an opportunity to employ a new staff member, Lisa knew Hannah would be perfect for the role.
Jonny has worked at Root since May 2023. His love for plants was inherited initially from his grandparents and parents, but really took off once he moved into his own place, where he started picking up small plants and was fascinated by watching how they grow and change over time.
